The wine tasting building is a beautiful facility with a very rustic feel. They have a great variety of wine, and most of them were pretty good. The place is dog-friendly, which was kind of a nice thing. The views off of the patio area were very nice.

Really great local wines, enjoyed in relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Exceptionally friendly folks and great wine tasting experience. Hands down favorite on recent winery tour.

Barrel Oak has a large, beautiful tasting room to accommodate larger crowds. Its bar is staffed by knowledgeable and attentive pourers who provide good insights into the wines being tasted as well as conversation about the Virginia Wine industry. There are two paths to take on the menu for the $10 fee that share the same opening and closing wine types. The wines are decent but still have a longer journey to becoming outstanding. A larger crowd arrives on weekend nights to fill the place according to our server -- it has become a premier destination for an enjoyable evening out for the locals. A beautiful view of the smaller hills of the Shenandoah is a plus -- from the bar, balcony or outside tables. The dog motif of the place highlights a "bow wow" experience.

Barrel Oak had an expansive tasting room with a large loft area with a separate bar. There is a large fireplace on the ground floor that they keep going, and also live music occasionally in a side room. Can accommodate large numbers of people well, without feeling crowded. Also lots of outdoor seating with great view.

Took the kids and folks to BOW today for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Arrived about 12:45 and snagged a couch and some rockers by the fire...heavenly! Brought our own cheese tray which was good because they didn't seem to have much food for purchase (they were out of baguettes so it was good we had 2 kinds of crackers). Staff was friendly and made us feel welcome with our 8 and 3 year old kids. Was somewhat nice out (for December) and the kids enjoyed playing by the fire pits, Wine was a bit pricey - almost $60 for 2 bottles. But that is about right for Northern Virginia wineries.

Went with wife for wedding anniversary and two other wineries on a Saturday. Read the other reviews. A very large commercialized place but fun for all types. The inside is crowded but fun with tasting areas, food, and separate rooms, picnic tables outside... Was like a tailgate for wine drinkers but really fun!! Saw people on getaways, wedding parties, and large groups... Really enjoyed it the experience being from outside the dc area was great. Will be back again. Watch out for cops who will follow you closely if going over 45. Cheers!

BOW is a beautiful winery with amazing views of the surrounding hills and mountains. Especially now with the change of season. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I don't know of any other winery that is dog friendly. They have a large selection of wines which are reasonably priced. Highly recommend if you have a free weekend. With the outdoor picnic tables and fire pits now is the best time to go.

Visited yesterday afternoon. Granted it was busy because of the beautiful Fall day. Too crowded, wine bottle prices have jumped significantly in two years, and too loud!!! Bluemont, and Afton Mountain were much better experiences, better wines, better servers, and better prices. After visiting in 2012, and 2014, we will move on. There was far from a relaxing Sunday afternoon experience.

we visited the winery Sunday with our 8 month golden retreiver and our family. Terrific location, approx. 50 minutes west of Arlington. Many dog owners there with there well behaved pets. The wine is very good, the workers go out of their way to make you feel wanted. Food trucks on the property offer a nice assortment of prepared food. The picnic tables and other table areas are surrounded by many outdoor fire pits that are kept filled by the emplyees...nice on a cool day...

While this place has a super laidback vibe with kids and dogs running around, it still maintains an elegant country charm. We showed up on a rainy Saturday and ponied up at the upstairs bar, trying the standard tasting of reds and whites - complete with the "Chocolate Lab" for dessert! I definitely want to come back in the spring or summer months and check out the patio area on a nicer day.

Barrel Oak has a spectacular view. It sits on top of a hill that overlooks the mountains and a couple of other wineries. My husband and I have visited 3 times now. On weekends it can be very crowded. As a happy hour in the evening, it is nice and quaint. There is a large selection of wines. I'm more of a wine wine drinker, but I love their reds. Most wines are decently priced. Some of the specialty wines are a little bit more. This is a dog and kid friendly place, but the later it gets in the day I wouldn't take children because of the crowding.

A few friends and I had a great day out of the city trying wines, playing with puppies, and enjoying the beautiful views from the winery. The wine tasting was decent, we decided to buy a bottle of wine that we all agreed upon and stayed a few extra hours. The staff were lovely as well. Definitely dog and family friendly!

We enjoyed our time at the winery but it was pretty crowded on the holiday week-end. Not much seating available. It was hot and some tables did not have umbrellas to protect from the sun so no one sat at them. Allowed our dogs at the winery which was a plus but most wineries do that in VA. We had a bottle of wine and pizza both of which was pretty expensive. So expensive that we decided not to purchase any for taking home which is unusual for us when we visit a winery. We probably will not go back because of the prices.

Went during the week with our dog and had a great time. The grounds are gorgeous inside and out. One of the more beautiful tasting rooms I have seen and the foremost dog friendly winery anywhere around....they are welcome inside and out and there are water bowls set up everywhere. The folks that work here are friendly and knowledgeable. We did two tastings and just loved the Merlot and the Cab Franc. Two reasons why I dont give this a 5 star review: 1) the tastings are expensive. It is a anywhere from $5-7 for a 3 wine grouping, amd they have 5 groupings which can really add up. 2) They are right off I-66 and the hum from the highway is very noticeable, which I am sure is probably drowned out when live music is playing.

It's hard to say enough good things about this winery. The location is impressive - large in size with 6? tasting bars, food vendors that came in, and extensive seating both indoors and outdoors. They encouraged you to bring your pups, and it was very clear that a huge number of people took them up on that on a regular basis. As for the wines: Some good and some not so good. I imagine someone will always find something they enjoy. Nice dessert wine selection, and some good summer semisweets. Didn't love their dry wines which are typically my go-to, but could easily find something to enjoy. Well worth a visit!
