Our family of five has gone to lake LBJ each summer for the past 5 years to join up with other members of our extended family. We stay in the Horseshoe Bay area. Great swimming from the rent house and great boating on the lake. It is advisable to avoid the weekend if you can because it is pretty crowded then. During the week there is only light traffic on the lake. There is also pretty good fishing. My boys and I all catch a pretty good haul of pan-fish and catfish while there. As others have noted a big advantage of this lake is the consistent water level.
The advantage of this lake is that it is a constant level lake, and you can cruise up and down towards the Colorado river or up by Horseshoe Bay to see the "mansions".
Our friends took us boating for the day...LBJ"S seem to have all the amenities necessary for boating and then some...this is a Texas sized lake for sure..beautiful amenities and scenery. We went on Monday in Sept of 2012 and we were one of maybe three other boaters, there was very little wind so we enjoyed glassy conditions making for perfect skiing conditions, tubing floating etc. Beautiful day!
We love Lake LBJ as it's an annual location to meet for our family reunion. We use a private boat ramp and only ski and tube. I've heard the fishing is good.
This lake was slightly above average. It was extremely crowded on the weekends which made wake boarding nearly impossible. The houses on the lake were beautiful on both the very north and south ends.
Lake LBJ is a beautiful, large, constant level lake along the chain of lakes made up by dams along the Texas Colorado River. You have Lake Buchanan at the north, then Inks Lake, then Lake LBJ, then Lake Marble Falls, then Lake Travis, then Lake Austin and then Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin. These lakes make up what is known as the Highland Lakes.Lake LBJ is about 27 miles long and is a great fishing, boating, and water sport lake. There are many private homes all over the lake and numerous cabins and vacation rental properties.Lake LBJ is near the towns of Kingsland, Granite Shoals, Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, Sunrise Beach, and Llano. Llano and Marble Falls are not on the lake but close by. It is about 1 1/2 hrs from both Austin & San Antonio. It is about 4 hrs from Houston and Dallas. Many families from west Texas have vacation homes on Lake LBJ. Highly recommend Log Country Cove on Lake LBJ for a family vacation. Many families come to Lake LBJ each summer for their summer vacations.
This will give you a great overview of things to do on and around Lake LBJ, Texas. Lots of great restaurants, hotels, 2nd vacation homes and shopping in nearby towns. I was surprised when someone said the lake is dirty. It only gets murky on occassion like after heavy rain may churn things up. Otherwise it's great for all types of lake fun and one of the few lakes that allows all types watercraft in central Texas.
Water sports are the top reason to enjoy Lake LBJ. Also, if you want a house on a lake, this is the one since you can have a home right on the water. Horseshoe Bay is one of the most prestigious areas around the lake, with great amenities.
We were invited to go with my in laws to meet with the realtor to view lake front properties on Lake LBJ. We took our boat and met the realtor so she could show us the properties for sale by water. The lake was sooo dark, murky and dirty. I was amazed by the huge homes on such a dirty lake. The lake is narrow and has a lot of shallow parts. I was glad the realtor was riding in our boat with us as she told us where all of the shallow shots were.My son was skiing and the lake was so narrow the boat behind us couldn't even pass. This was on a Sunday afternoon. I couldn't imagine being on that lake on a Friday or Saturday!!! There are so many beautiful lakes but LBJ is NOT one of them!!! I would never want to visit that lake again!
Many public areas and boat ramps. Jet ski rentals and resorts
We had a great time. Went boating and used waverunners. We had the lake to ourselves.
Water Skiing, Jet skis, swimming, boating, picnics, BBQs.... whatever you want, you can get here. The lake is close to Friedsburg as well. That's another Texas hot spot!
Even in a severe drought year Lake LBJ will be full. It is one of the few constant level lakes on the Colorado river. Best place to stay is Horseshoe Bay. Stay at the Marriott for full resort amenities or one of the many homes or condos for rent on the water. Our favorite is the Waters condos. They have a beautiful pool and day docks for your boat. Easy booking through All Seasons rentals.
