This is a great sight to see. Beautiful surroundings and the views from the top of this sight are just gorgeous! Recommend it for a simple, quiet, and beautiful place to visit.

The petroglyphs are interesting to see and brings you back in time, but you wonder how many are real and how many are carved out by people who just want to carve something out the rock… and leave their initials or chalk them… . The National Parks Services, or whoever looks after the site, could do something about it and cover the real petroglyphs, the same way they did with William Clarks carving in Pompeys Pillar, that would preserve it for future generations. It was worthwhile to visit though.Driving the 191 at position: N41° 43.612' W109° 16.460' take the CR 17 (Country Road) East for 21.9 km (13.6 mls), you will see a signpost for the white mountains petroglyphs, from there it is another 4.7km (2.9 mls) until the Parking spot. There is a toilet is available, even though it is still a 10 to 15 minute walk up hill, there are benches placed at intervals on the way up, that you can rest on in case you need it. From the parking place follow the path veering to the right uphill, once you reach the gate just follow the left path until you face the rock cliff from close by, then slowly follow the cliff downhill to the right. Bring lots of water and something to eat on your journey. The road to it is a dirt road, and good to travel for a 4wd.

This is a really neat place to visit and is a very short hike to get to it once you arrive. It is 30 miles out in the middle of nowhere and we only saw 2 cars on our way and had no cell phone service. Sad that people have to trace petroglyphs in chalk or carve their own names and initials into the rocks.

This is an easily accessible rock art site off US 191 north of Rock Springs Wyoming. It has some very nice petroglyphs, but the main attraction for me was a boulder with deeply grooved handprints of a kind I have not seen before.

It was fun driving the dirt road out to the petroglyph site, north of Rock Springs, Wyoming area. I lucked out as the "dirt road" grader was smoothing out the sand that day so had a good drive out. The walk to the petroglyphs was very scenic and it was interesting to see them. I found out about them in the tourist guide in my hotel room and glad that I took the opportunity to see them.

fascinating getting there. Road is 17 miles very washboarded, then better the last few miles. Restrooms near the site. Walked about half a mile from parking, which we didn't expect. The Petroglyphs themselves were very clear. Could have used some explanations and directions from the parking area.

Was worth the drive out though it is about 20 miles off main road. Very slow going (15 miles per hour) wash board roads with a few sandy washouts. I drove it in a rented KIA Soul, tough little car, but a four wheel drive would have been nice. Petroglyphs are carved into the face of a cliff. You can climb to top of cliff from the side, great views and great a place to explore. Few people go there so enjoy having the place to yourself. Take lots of water ( twice what you think you need) and something to eat. It is a great place to just sit and chill out. You can camp for the night there, which would be nice for I would love to sit on top of the cliff and watch the sun rise. also, when photograghing the petroglyphs the lower sun angle would make thr carvings stand out more. Please, do not use chalk or deface petroglyphs in any way. The road out by way of Boars tusk was pretty hairy! At boars tusk there is a sign that points back to main road with milage of 17 miles. I took it because it seemed better than driving bask the 24 mi. that I had come. But, the road had a lot of what I call blow-outs, where the wind and rain washed out road and just left long runs of sand . With 4x4 they would not be too much problem though I was able to run most of them with that KIA...almost! Got caught between one last run of blow-out, which I new I could not make and the previous one which I knew I would not be able back through. (by the way my cell phone was not able to pick up signal) There was wheel tracks below , about 8 feet below, the road embankment. The embankment was at about 45%. Figured that was my best bet. New I wasn't going to get stuck on way down! That KIA took it with no problem! It was almost a long hot walk back to main road! You will want to drive out to the Boars Tusk while your ou there but you will need 4wheel for that. What a great trip if you like wild places and great history that you can feel! Happy Trails

This site is amazing and unique, an opportunity to travel back in time and exercise your imagination. It is in a remote location, with no on site rangers or guide. The setting is inspiring, truly a glimpse into history. Think Mesa Verde before it was a national park. Make certain to stop at Boar's Tusk on your excursion, and do not head into the area if it has been raining.

TravelerLY

We went during a rainy period. Not the best vacation decision we've ever made! The road would have been a good road if not for LOTS of muddy spots -- needed 4WD several times. The petroglyphs themselves are interesting -- not as numerous or detailed as other sites in the southwest but it was a fun day trip. If you've been to sites in the 4 Corners area, this might be a disappointment. If nothing else, the drive out was an adventure!! I love the wide open scenery and the beautiful skies!

Worth the trip out to these. Much of the drive is on a dirt road, but it's a very good one. Any car should be able to make it if you're careful. Please respect these prehistoric images!

If you are not used to dirt roads be careful on your drive out, this is a not a highly traveled area. If you are into petroglyphs it's worth seeing. The overall area is great if you like wide open spaces there is also "bore's tusk" (a volcanic plug) on your way to the site. You will definitely see antelope, good chance for wild horses, and may even see some elk. Don't head out there in the winter the snow drifts can be very deceiving and you don't want to be stuck. There are no services and cell phone reception is spotty at best.

Outlanders

Road out there is long and gravel - you gotta love this type of thing to bother with the trek. Once out there the 'hike' is minimal.Petros are great although was so saddened by the defacement of others. Do not touch rock art ever.

With a birthing stone, petroglyphs of pregnant bison, elk, and more. Nice example of late prehistoric/early proto-historic rock art.
