After reading reviews for Winfield, I knew we had to visit. I emailed the owners to confirm they would be open July 4th. Justin promptly replied that they planned to be closed but he would let me know if something changed. About a week before our trip, he emailed to say they would open from 9:00-11:00 if we still wanted to come by. Of course we did! Well, several hours and quite a bit of money later, we left very happy. Justin and his wife are the third generation at this trading post, they know their artists and were happy to talk about the art, answering all of our questions. The prices ranged from $12.00 to probably $12,000. There were some amazing vintage pieces as well as new and the quality was evident. We bought items for ourselves as well as many gifts. They took the time to write about each piece and naming the artists. They even made us excellent lattes while we shopped. We felt like we made new friends and look forward to visiting/shopping again the next time we are near the area.

Roughly midway between Gallup and Zuni (beautiful drive), and run by 3d generation 'trader' family, this large shop is a pleasure to visit and buy from. Assisted by 'Michelle', and 'Mike', who know their artists and their merchandise, we are happy customers! Also serve a delicious coffee while you shop...mmm.

The stock on hand at Winfield Trading is many-fold beyond their ability to fit it all in their showroom. I recommend looking around, finding something you like, and asking what else they have that is similar. You will be amazed! Even if you do not see what you want...be sure to ask! We were there last month and were able to pick up a number of very nice inexpensive gifts for family & friends.

We were totally blessed with finding the Winfield Trading Co. We were looking for the cemetary at Pine Tree Mission as a friend's parents had started that mission back in the 40's and were buried there so we could send him pictures. In the area we found Winfield Trading Co. a wholesale/retail establishment dealing in quality Native American jewelry, art and crafts. They sell beautiful turquoise, other stones, silver and also quality jewelry.Besides raw stones they have beautiful extensive collections of "jewelry ready" stones. My daughter makes jewelry and was super pleased with the quality and prices at Winfield. She was impressed with the selection of spiney oyster polished and drilled stones among others. They have a huge vault of stock and brought her many trays of stones to examine. She purchased many fine stones.Native American artisans bring their completed work to Winfield to sell but only the most skilled craftsmen need apply. The finished jewelry offered for sale here is quality.Other forms of artwork are well represented here including carvings, weaving and rugs. I was delighted to find and purchase an alabaster ram Zuni fetish style in a much larger size than I had seen anywhere. If you are in Gallup, make Winfield Trading Co. a must see stop. State Hwy 602 is a good road and it's only 20 miles south of Gallup to Winfield Trading Co. I know we will stop there again the next time we are in the area.

Winfield Trading Company has become one of our "go-to" destinations when we travel America's beautiful Southwestern roads. OK, its a store that sells Native American jewelry, art, pottery, and other hand made items. But what a store! Winfield trading (http://www.winfieldtradingcompany.com/) is one of the largest wholesale outlets for Native American arts and crafts in the world. The bulk of their business is wholesale, but their store at 1830 State Hwy 602 just 20 miles South of Gallup New Mexico is the most up-scale venue for Native arts & crafts I have ever seen. Two examples may provide a better description: Last August I was looking at a piece of horsehair pottery being sold by one (of the very many) vendors who line the overlooks at Canyon De Chelly, AZ. Asking price was $200. I bought a less ornate piece at Winfield trading for $20, reduced because the lip of the vessel was chipped. Selection is enormous. My wife was looking at a small hummingbird pin of opal & silver. The clerk brought out a box with at least 50 similar pins, differing only in the shades and tints of the opal. We saw the identical design at Carlsbad Caverns for 20% more, but with far less of a selection. The range of merchandise they carry is much greater than can be displayed in their small store. I asked about belts, and was led into one of their living room-sized vaults that was lined floor to ceiling with all manner of arts & crafts. The bottom line here is that Winfield Trading Company should be on your itinerary if you are anywhere near Gallup, NM and are interested in Native American arts & crafts. Besides, the drive down Highway 602 from Gallup is very scenic, and provides a gateway to two very beautiful and under-visited National Monuments at El Moro and El Malpais via state highway 53 to the East.
