Thanks for your review. I'd glad you enjoyed the butterflies and the respite from the Iowa winter. I would encourage you to visit again during the warmer months because we've got 17 acres of outdoor gardens which really amplifies the visitor experience.

Always have visited in December when my husband attends a track clinic in Ames. His comment on the butterfly wing was that it reminded him of the playground at recess(we are both retired teachers) with the perpetual motion of the butterflies but with one exception-the silence! Such a nice relaxing place to visit on a cold winter day. The conservatory is always beautifully decorated and even walking the grounds outside provides many photo ops. Would love to come back sometime in the summer and see the gardens in full bloom.

Great gardens. Fun place for children. The lily ponds when blooming are beautiful and the frogs on the lily pads are fun to watch.

We came to Reiman Gardens at the less showy part of the season for gardens: late August. By that time most flowers and plants have already put on a show for the tourists and the fall leaf and fruit colors are not due for at least another month. But the nice part of this is that you have the whole park to yourself without having to battle with crowds.I do highly recommend visiting Reiman Gardens for the live butterfly exhibit. We spent an hour just sitting and watching them inside the protective conservatory where they are kept. Seeing many different species of butterflies and moths flying freely about us and some even landing on us was definitely an unforgettable treat. It also reminded me of the plight of the Monarch butterfly which is currently in serious population decline.

They always have something going on. Kids love the Butterfly area. The gift shop is interesting with lots lovely items. We are members & like to take advantage of various class offerings during the year. Check their website for current attractions. You don't have to be a member to participate.

We spent the last night of a recent cross-country trip in Ames. When we booked our lodging, the hotel mentioned being close to some "gardens" near the university - so, not knowing what we would find, we decided to make them our one "local flavor" stop before our last day's drive home. This attraction is located on the south end of the Iowa State University campus - across the parking lot from the football stadium. It is seventeen acres of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, landscapes, hard-scapes, water features, and sculptures - so varied and extensive that it might better be called an arboretum. And then there is the conservatory with interesting aqua and aeroponic exhibits, and finally, the amazing Butterfly House. We will be back.

We have never been to the gardens, and unfortunately, we did not have enough time to explore all the displays and gardens! We really enjoyed the Bonsai seminar and displays.

The Reiman Gardens are a beautiful and tranquil place to visit in the busy college town of Ames about half an hour North of Des Moines. Located just far enough from campus so parking is not a problem (except on football days), I arrived after a thunderstorm had come through, so it was a little cloudy and wet, but I still had an enjoyable visit. Besides the gardens there are sculptures that change (aliens were the theme when I visited). The butterfly house was wonderful, though a little too warm on my visit, but the butterflies were plentiful and I got great pictures. Tulips, pansies and flowering trees were the main attraction in late May, but don’t miss the very pretty wooded glen at the south end of the garden.

We were looking for something to do that out 14 month old son would enjoy as well. The children's garden was wonderful! The paths and gardens were beautiful. Butterfly house was amazing! Very educational as well. Thank you!

Loved the butterfly house and surrounding gardens. I highly recommend this stop. Wish I live closer to see the seasons change.
