This takes us back to the drive in theaters of years ago. There aren't all that many left so if you haven't experienced a drive in movie, grab the chance to do so at the Hyde Park Drive In.

Growing up in the city, I had never been to a drive-in, although my partner remembers going when he was young. We took our 7 year old to see Iron Man, and it was really a lot of fun! Our boy was exhausted by the time the movie ended, so we left, but this drive-in always shows a double feature for the price of one. You can bring your own food of course, but they have a full snack bar with lots of choices, and not too pricey. We had a few little chairs and blankets so our son made a friend and they cozied up with the blankets in front of the car. Definitely recommend this place.

Nice variety of movies, many choices of snacks and drinks, perfect for families, young couples, or anyone! bring your own grill if you like. well-behaved dogs on leashes are ok.

Prior to arriving in Hyde Park, I read that it was going to rain the night we had planned on going to the theater. The website stated that they are open even during thunderstorms! We were able to keep our hatchback up (back seats flattened), with lots of pillows and blankets and enjoy the movie during the rain. I did use a mosquito coil......just in case, and none of us got bitten. That was a huge plus. My son and his friend had never been to a drive in. He said that as soon as he's enrolled in The CIA, he and his friends from high school culinary school should go every week that they're open. So next Spring 5 great friends will have a weekly plan to meet up. I hear that my son will be the only one with a car out of all of his friends. He really enjoyed the experience and is really looking forward to taking his friends! Where else can you see 2 current movies for the price of one?

I was surprised at the increased ticket prices, especially since the second movie wasn't family-friendly. However, my son got to see his precious Planes while sitting in the car and eating goldfish crackers. The evening was a success!

We had planned a visit to the Hyde Park Drive-In during our visit to the Hudson Valley. We had been watching the coming attractions for weeks, and almost every week they had a G or PG movie to start, followed by a more maturely rated one. Unfortunately, the week we visited (July 6th) the movies showing were not appropriate for our youngest child (8). I realize that the Drive-In likely has no control over what movies come their way as nearly all the theaters were showing the same features. Maybe we can visit another time.

First time anyone in my family had experienced a drive-in. We all loved it and wished we lived near one. Family owned and operated and everyone was so nice. Try the fried dough - delish!

Just drive in,,paid less than 10.00,,find a good spot,,tune in your car radio, relax and watch two movies. No more sound boxes that you used to hang on your windows..You can bring lawn chairs and blankets..To be honest I didn't see one mosquito,,but I am sure they had to be around..No open fires but you can use citronella candles that they sell at the snack bar..Very large screen and good views from all over the drive-in grounds.Bring your own snacks or you can get hot dogs,,hamburgers,,fried dough,,pizza,,popcorn and drinks at the snack bar..This summer I hope to try every drive-In theater in this area...One more thing! IF THERE IS A POPULAR MOVIE SHOWING I SUGGEST YOU GET THERE EARLY, so you can get the best parking spot,,like near the snack bar and restroom BECAUSE THIS PLACE GETS PACKED!

There aren't many drive-in theaters left in the U.S., so if you're in the area, and it's open, it's worth visiting.

The Hyde Park Drive-In was established in 1949 and has been a much-loved part of the community since. Located directly across from the FDR site in Hyde Park, NY, the drive-in regularly shows two feature films per run at a cost one would pay to see one film elsewhere. Dogs are allowed as is alcohol. Lawn chairs may be set up in front of one's vehicle but the sound is broadcast through one's car radio and, obviously, the further you are from the source the harder it will be to hear. The box office accepts only cash - so be aware of that before you go - but the snack bar accepts credit cards. The snack bar is a real throw back to the past - in a good way - and seems pretty much the same today as it was in the 1970's. Cars should park on the right side of the snack bar building and trucks and vans on the left side, facing the screen. I heard the place was slated to close a few years ago but was saved and there are plenty, myself included, who are grateful for that. Open May - September, 7 nights a week, the drive-in is still as much fun as it was when I was a kid.

We took our teenaged daughters who had never been to a drive-in. It didn't disappoint. We even saw some fireflies!!! It was worth it for my husband and me just for the nostalgia.

You still can experience an open air movie theater providing its not raining. The Drive-in is open from May- September ( ck for actual dates) Good fun for the whole family
