Looking at it from above on the Walkway across the Hudson it looks like a nice place to walk. But when we go down there the people congregating around the picnic tables and benches did not look very nice. We decided not to get out of the car and walk around. I would say avoid this area.

I'm so proud of what has happened at the Poughkeepsie Waterfront. After waiting for so many years! You can now walk from the train station along the river and over to the new elevator to the Walkway Over the Hudson. The elevator is attended by park rangers.

The paths beside the Hudson are not long enought, more cycle lanes, the Children's museum is very good, good bar called the Ice House for food and beer

A decent waterfront area which felt safe during the day but from local reports not ideal to wander around at night. There are a few restaurant options on the waterfront like River Station and Ice House and a few others between the Waterfront and Dooley square, i.e. the train station car park. Empire Cruise Lines offering Hudson River cruises has their boat M/V Mystère docked at the waterfront and there's the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum a few steps away as well as elevator access to the Walkway over the Hudson. Beyond this there's not that much to do. The waterfront would be more attractive if there were shops, weekend market or arts /music /crafts fair in the Victor C. Waryas Park. The waterfront development is a great idea and I hope it will expand in the coming years. Poughkeepsie can be a wonderful tourist destination but needs to get serious about becoming tourist-friendly by dealing with the crime, unsightliness in historic neighbourhoods and by generally catering to external visitors. For example, looking at affordable and easy transport options (like a trolley perhaps) and by installing proper signage for attractions. Here's something simple to start with: There were no shops or restaurants in the waterfront area or indeed anywhere along the Main street selling a single postcard of Poughkeepsie!

A nice park by the riverside, with great views of the bridge and the river itself. Great place to stroll on a sunny afternoon (and you can access the bridge by elevator if you want). Plenty of free parking. The surrounding area looks a bit run down and you get the feeling there is still work to be done before the park area is fulfilling its potential.

Plenty of parking, access to the new walking bridge elevator, great restaurants to complete the experience, and the might Hudson! Good times.

Waryas Park used to be a frightening place...and I don't know that I would still go back there after dark as yet, but on a sunny day it's beautiful for a stroll and to relax and take in the view. Perhaps a drink on the deck of River Station before or after or even the Ice House Restaurant.

This area along the Hudson River has a walkway by the river, benches, picnic tables, a nice restaurant with outdoor seating and a pavilion. Some of it is unkempt, but one section, Upper Landing, has nice walkways made of brick, nice benches and some historical buildings including the Hoffman House, one of the oldest buildings in the city. Cutting through the area is Fallkill, a rushing creek, were old factory mills were located years ago. There are historical information plaques around the waterfront. Parking is free but was a little tight on a Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed spending a few hours walking and exploring the area.

If you have time, go to the waterfront and take a short stroll. There is free parking. There are picnic tables, a play set for kids, and views of the Hudson River, the Mid Hudson Bridge and the Walkway over the Hudson (which used to be a New Haven railroad bridge). There is also a restaurant and bar called the Ice House. If you are short on time, I would suggest that you skip the waterfront and go to the post office at 55 Mansion St. which is amazing.

It is amazing that a place with so much potential can be ruined by business people and politicians. With amazing views like this how can rude greedy people be allowed to rent here and ruin it for everyone. Overpriced and low quality food with horrendous service followed by rude management. I will spend money elsewhere. Talk a walk for the view but stop elsewhere.

Nice area to walk and enjoy nature. Great view of historic sites. The Ice House has a nice bar, dining room, and outdoor patio seating; all with great views of the river and walking bridge over the Hudson.

The combination of the Hudson River Walk and the riverfront is sensational. Downtown Poughkeepsie by the river used to be creepy at best. Now it is just wonderful. Love it.

We stopped her for and early dinner and found a great restaurant. Nice views of the river and good weekend parking.

We often grab some some light dinner and bring it to the waterfront to nosh. There are usually available picnic tables, which is good because the grass is often slightly littered and filled with bird droppings. The best part about this spot is how close you can get to the actual water. Gorgeous views of the mid Hudson and walkway over the Hudson bridges. Just wish people would clean up after themselves and use the plentiful garbage cans.

We took a walk here near sunset. Nice views of the Hudson valley and the Walkway over the Hudson. Parts of it are a little run-down. We ended up having dinner at the Ice House.
