Big shout out to park ranger Suzanne for an excellent tour!! It was a total BLAST! Suzanne took us on a privet tour inside the dam, showed us around and was extremely informative and just super cool and nice! What a great experience!Aloha from Maui!Mike and Mary.

Informative visitor center but unless you are a dam geek, there are better spots to make sure you don't miss here. Well worth stopping at overlooks (on both sides) and taking time to drive Hwy 37 north along the reservoir. My absolute favorite in the Dam area is below the dam, along the east side of the river. Drive the single-lane drive along picnic spots, a course for frisbee golf, and to the boat launch at the end...just past the boat launch is a wonderful waterfowl nesting and recovery area. I almost always spot some blue heron, several varieties of ducks and birds.

Well maintained and informative visitor center. If you're a dam geek (my wife and I work(ed) for a power utility), it is nice to visit. They also have exhibits on the natural environment of the area. Lot of kid-centered hands on exhibits. Bonus of hearing the bugle of an bull elk on the hillside across the reservoir on this fall-like morning. It looks like there were tours during the summer that ended by the labor day weekend.

If you dislike crowds and like dams that create beautiful bodies of water, then you will enjoy a visit to the Libby Dam. The seasonal rangers offer guided tours at 10, 12, 2, & 4 daily. They know their stuff and are willing to answer all your questions about hydroelectric power. The visitor center contains educational displays that are designed to help folks think about the conflicting pressures on the use of the project. Ecological, recreational and economic interests often clash. The movie is also well done, so take the time to see the story of why and how this dam came to be. This attraction is free and suitable for people of all ages. There are also plenty of picnic tables, a frisbee course, basketball hoop, and small beach.

I like to expose my kids (sometimes against their will) to lots of different kinds of places. Libby Dam is a working hydroelectric facility. We arrived in time to take the last scheduled tour of the day. You must be a few minutes early and adults have to have a photo id for security purposes. No electronics or cameras are allowed on tour which is a shame because the views you get are incredible!!! We got to walk across the top of the dam and go down inside to see non-working and working turbines. The scale of the dam is most evident from the outside looking up. Wow! We had a very nice tour guide who also took us up to the observation deck in the Treaty Tower which isn't always part of the tour. Once again....beautiful views. Like I said, the tour guide was very nice but she was a recent high school grad who wasn't able to answer all of our questions. Would have liked to have seen an engineering student giving the tour.We cooked our dinner in the beautiful park that surrounds the dam. No one was around and it was perfect.

It’s a great place to take a break from the road. I stop here every time I pass through the area. It is a scenic spot to just take it all in and lots to see if you slow down a little! The how and why of the dam is interesting, but it’s not the only reason to stop here. Bring a picnic and a camera or fishing rod or a good book if the weather is good. Whatever you do - you will probably have the place to your self.

Great place just to sit around and enjoy the peacefulness of the area. Lots of mountains and clouds. Nobody there but me, it was after tourist season and the visitor center was closed but that did not deter me from enjoying scenery.

We were returning to Canada after 2 months in our RV and decided to stop in Libby for a night; but stayed seven days. The Libby area is a wonderful place with lots to see and do. We visited the dam, falls close by; and went 20 miles to see the wonderful giant cedars. The local restaurants are worth trying. We especially liked the Mexican food. Libby is definitely on our list for a longer visit in 2014.
