MAM occupies a great historic building and complementary addition. Always free, with good outreach programs, MAM understands its community and serves it well. They have one of the best, if not the best collection of contemporary Native American art in the U.S. Exhibits change frequently, with a mix of local and regional art.

Thank you very much for your review! We're happy to hear you had such a positive experience at the museum. Admission is always free and we offer a variety of programs for our exhibits which everyone is welcome to attend. We will also be offering exhibit tours this fall. Thank you again!

Really enjoyed our visit here. It is a small building but that is often an advantage as large collections can be overwhelming. Good range of different types of art and perspectives. loved the rhinocerous

We had the good fortune to be vacationing in Missoula, Montana this year and saw three great art exhibits at the Missoula Art Museum (MAMSO). But, before going inside, we saw a spectacular sculpture of a rhino outside the museum. This sculpture was created by Bill Ordman and it is magnificent! Inside, we saw several Edgar Paxson Murals (we had seen his work previously at the local court house). Paxson is well known for his "western" theme paintings. We were blown away by the beauty of the black and white photography exhibit by Chris Autio; we thought these were the best we have ever seen. Chris photographed his subjects working. And, the third amazing exhibit was "Crossing The River: Hmong Story cloths." These brilliant cloths tell the story of the Hmong people and they are fascinating. Such beautiful work on cloth. If you are in the area, don't miss these exhibits! By the way, there is no charge to see these incredible works of art!

Several well known works were located on the second floor above the entry way over Easter Weekend. We enjoyed our time there.

If anyone thinks of Missoula as a "cow town" you are thinking of the rest of Montana; this town is full of art and music 7 days a week. The MAM is the coolest building, with progressive and challenging exhibits; the staff was accessible and passionate about the work

Didn't expect to find something of this quality in a relatively small town. Not a large place but well worth a visit.

Nice art museum. Worth taking a some time to check this place out. It is a former Library If I recall that has been converted to a fantastic venue for fine exhibitions.

I was pleased that it wasn't filled with western art, but not blown away. It is a nice little museum and you can tell they are trying very hard. It's in an awkward building but with doing at if you are already downtown with time to kill.

This was our third visit. this time not so much for the exhibit but for a lecture by a visiting artist. Having been there before we knew that the museum is well supported by the art community. Never did we dream that the lecture would attract over a hundred people. the presenter was personable, interesting, and his art work exquisite. the gallery itself has numerous levels and both permanent and rotating exhibits. the building was a former Carnegie library but a wonderful modern addition blends well both functionally and aesthetically. Such a jewel for such a nice city.

Such a nice museum! Right in downtown Missoula. Great western flare with contemporaneity style! It was free to! It was clean and well knowledgeable staff to ask any questions!

The day I went they were in the process of changing displays sothere was only one showing. Coming from st.Louis it is hard for me to say much due to the size of the museum. Quite small......but if you are downtown for lunch this is a fun place to stop.

This is a real gem dedicated to showing the works of Montana artists. The displays we saw in mid-October were just outstanding. Good art is everywhere not just in the big cities!

I was surprised to find so much modern art of -to me- varying quality when I was expecting more Western art. I very much enjoyed the Louise Bourgeois sculpture and the current exhibitions (notably Dwayne Wilcox). The building itself is perfect for exhibiting art, not too small, not too dark. It's free, it's a good way to spend an hour in Missoula!

the art museum may seem rather small to people from large cities, or those who travel often, but i rather enjoy the ''comfy'' size of the building.note--this does not mean the museum has only one room. they have at least five good-sized rooms showcasing local artwork. a good stop-off before lunch, or between lunch and dinner. :)
