Visited here as part of "The Ramble" House is very nice. Especially enjoyed the Mardi Gras exhibit upstairs.

This is a beautiful home that is well maintained considering its age. Both the home and grounds are exquisite. The docent at the home is wonderful and exudes her love of history.

The Mouton and Voorhies families gave so much to found Lafayette. See where they lived and experience what their lives must have been like. Excellent museum with excellent and knowledgeable staff.

A fine example of upper middle class antebellum Southern house. Inside is a fine collection of--well, pretty much everything pertaining to a successful Southern family--furniture (check out the "tiger oak" armoire in the Nun's room--fantastic!!), china, civil war weaponry, mardi gras costumes (what upper middle class Louisiana family wouldn't be prominent at Mardi Gras?) and the usual photos and portraits (holy cow, that hat on the kid looks like a UFO landing!). The stuff is mostly collected from other folks than the various owners of the house, but it's all authentic and all interesting. And it costs five bucks to see it. Good for an hour or so.

It's been a few years since I have been there but I enjoy touring historical houses. Lafayette lacks individual homes such as this to tour. The tour itself it good and if you are studying Acadian history this is good; if you just want to tour historic homes I would drive the 2 l/2 hours to Natchez, MS as it was not burned during the Civil War and has houses open seven days a week.

The museum offers an insight into the early life of the leader of the Secession Convention that opened the Civil War and set up reverberations that are still felt. It is a rare glimpse into the mind of the leaders of early Louisiana.

I have lived in Lafayette for 13 years. I finally had a chance to visit this fine old house in January 2008.The price was reasonable and has free parking. You take the tour on your own time. No tourguide. They first show you a film about the family history and describe each portion of the house in the film. After the film you are invited to tour the house on your own. It takes about an hour to go through (including film). This house was built by the founder of the city of Lafayette, LA
